Osteitis pubis
Osteitis pubis is an inflammation of the pubis symphysis (where the two pelvic bones join). It causes pain in the pelvic and lower abdominal region. It can be very painful and debilitating, there are a number of possible causes including:
- Pregnancy or childbirth
- Gynecolgogic and urologic surgery
- Sports activites
- Major trauma
- Repeated minor traumas
The condition can be impacted by repeated overload or even some training errors with sports people such as training on hard surfaces, uneven ground, increasing intensity too quickly, incorrect footwear.
Some people may have biomechanical issues making them more susceptible to osteitis pubis. Some of these issues include:
- Poor foot or body mechanics
- Gait problems
- Poor running or walking mechanics
- Tightness or stiffness in hip, groin and gluteal muscles
- Muscle imbalances
- Leg length discrepancies
