Golfers Elbow
With golfers elbow, there is an injury to the muscles that flex the wrist and fingers. The site of the injury is usually the medial epicondyle which is the bony point on the inside of the elbow. With this condition, people will normally experience pain when performing gripping tasks or resisted wrist or finger flexion. Many people will also have trigger points in the wrist flexor muscles. It is less common that tennis elbow purely because the extensor of the wrist are more commonly used on a daily basis than the flexors. Causes of golfers elbow can include:
- Unaccustomed flexing or gripping activities
- Poor forearm strength
- Poor technique
While golfers elbow is not as common as tennis elbow, it does occur commonly in the community. It is present in golfers but also in repetitive manual trade where a lot of gripping is involved. Common treatment includes:
- Soft tissue massage
- Dry needling
- Joint mobilization
- Strengthening and stretching exercises
- Taping
- Splinting/bracing
